TRIP THE LIGHT Demo - for Kickstarter backers only

WELCOME!

Dear Backers!

Thank you so much for your support to bring TRIP THE LIGHT to market!

This is a super-duper sneak peek at the prototype demo of TRIP THE LIGHT. Many people have playtested it at conferences around the world last year, but we haven’t sent it out like this before, so we’re excited to hear what you think. Everyone who's tried it so far had a big smile on their face! We hope you enjoy it!

How to install the game on your Quest 2, Quest 3 or Quest 3S headset

  1. You will have received an email from Meta Horizon with a link. Click where it says “this link” in the text.
  2. Log in to your Meta account and join the release channel.
  3. Choose Agree to Terms and Accept Invite.
  4. Now you’ll see “Trip The Light Demo” listed in your Meta Horizon library.
  5. On your headset, with your library view on “All,” you'll see a “Trip The Light Demo” icon.
  6. Hover over and select Install.

Don't see an email from Meta?

Go to Backer Update #8 and fill out the survey.  We need to manually add you to the demo release channel after you do the survey.

When you’re ready to play

  1. Make sure you’re in a clear, open space. The demo is designed for a clear 10’ x 10’ unobstructed conference booth. We recommend as much space as possible, but do not recommend playing in less than a clear 6’ x 6’ open space.
  2. Face the direction you want your virtual partner to appear - she appears in front of you.
  3. Select play!

When in the game demo

The entire experience lasts just a few minutes. There are two sections of the demo – two different gameplay modes, you will be automatically progressed through both.

  • The game starts with Partner Dance mode. In this mode you are the dance leader and are in full control of the dance. Take your partner's hands and have fun turning her and discovering the magic that happens when you successfully do moves. This mode lasts about 90 seconds.

  • After the Partner Dance mode ends you will be automatically transitioned to Mirror Me mode. In this mode look at your partner, she leads you and you match (or ‘mirror’) her moves.

  • A few seconds after Mirror Me mode ends your partner and the environment will disappear and you will be put back into ‘pass thru’ mode. A large “Play” button will float above your left hand, by physically pressing it with your virtual right hand you will restart the demo to play again.

Notes how to play:

Partner Dance Mode

In this mode you are the LEAD. When your partner approaches you will take her hand or hands and you control the dance action! Guide her around the floor and lead her through moves such as turns and spins.

TO TAKE YOUR PARTNER'S HAND

By simply reaching out and touching your partner's hand you will automatically take it and hold it. If you hold either trigger on a given hand you will hold that hand with a ‘tight grip’.

NOTE: In this version you cannot do any ‘cross hand’ holds, you may only take her right with your left, and her left with your right.

TO LET GO OF YOUR PARTNER'S HAND

Quickly pull away the hand you’d like to let go with, and you will automatically let go. However if you are in a ‘tight grip’ (by holding a trigger) you will not be able to let go with that hand no matter how quickly you pull away.

NOTE: Your partner will automatically let go of your hands whenever she needs to. For example if you turn her with your left hand she will automatically let go of your right at the correct time.

TO PLACE YOUR HAND(S) ON HER BACK

By simply reaching a free hand towards her shoulder you can place your hand on your partner’s back. Your free hand will automatically snap into the correct position on her back when close enough, and she will place her matching hand on your shoulder, this is known as ‘closed hold'. This hold works the same as the hand-to-hand hold with respect to letting go. Pull your hand away quickly to let go of her back, but if you hold the trigger you will not release her back no matter how quickly you move your hand. You can put one hand on her back or both simultaneously.

NOTE: In this mode she may end up uncomfortably close to you, particularly if you have both hands on her back at the same time.

HOW TO TURN / SPIN YOUR PARTNER

To lead your partner through a basic turn first take her hand. Starting with your hand at about waist height, raise your hand up and make a circle around or above your partner’s head.

TIP: If you move quickly you may left go of her before the turn starts, if you hold a ‘tight grip’ with the trigger(s) you can perf the action very quickly. You’ll know you did the turn correctly by her giving a positive response and by the magical effects that happen to your partner and the environment. Keep spinning her!

There are only a handful of moves in this version, can you find them?

MIRROR ME MODE

Mirror Me mode is very simple. Simply face your partner, watch her cues, follow along and mirror her dance moves!

NOTE: The prototype version does not provide accurate feedback on how well you performed each move (or not).

OTHER NOTES

Controllers

The game is controlled almost entirely by your physical movements. With the exception of the two triggers on each controller (the ‘tight grip’) you never need to press any of the buttons under your thumbs, nor use either of the thumb sticks

Quitting the game

Your left hand has a magical virtual floating watch on it. If you would like to quit the game during either of the two dances you can physically touch the watch face with the fingertips of your virtual right hand. This will open a menu that includes a quit button. Press the quit button (by pressing it with your right hand) to end the game.  Alternatively you may press the “Play” button to close the menu and return to dancing.

KNOWN ISSUES AND BUGS

GENERAL

  • There is no onboarding or training mode since this is a trade show demo build.
  • There is only one dance partner in this demo.
  • Your partner’s mouth does not move when she speaks.
  • Using the wristwatch before the dance starts is not supported and may have bugs.
  • Your partner’s clothing and shoes may clip through her body in certain poses.

PARTNER DANCE MODE

  • Your partner may get way too close to you and even into you!
  • The partner’s wrist and elbow positions can get into unnatural positions and poses. They can go through her body.
  • Your partner can go through walls and the stage.
  • You can go through walls and the stage.
  • You can only take the hand of your partner on the same side. You cannot take her left hand with your left, nor her right hand with your right.
  • Passthru mode on Quest 2 will be black and white.
  • Your partner’s head can move in unnatural ways in some circumstances
  • Your partner’s feet and leg movement is a prototype, they do not move perfectly to the beat and can exhibit unnatural movement and poses.
  • There can be significant space between your hands and your partner's hands even when you are holding them.
  • The demo does not accommodate for player height, turning your partner may be difficult for very short people or children.

MIRROR ME MODE

  • The dancer leading you in this mode may appear behind you. Turn around, as needed, and stand facing her.
  • Pumpkin heads on the backup dancers in the mirroring mode are placeholder assets from Halloween.
  • Mirror Me doesn’t actually score you in this version.
  • On Quest 2 performance during Mirror Me mode is below 72 hz.
  • The timer on the wristwatch during Mirror Me mode is incorrect
  • Depending on where you are standing when Mirror Me mode starts you may not have adequate space to move.
